4 Tips on Selling Your Home

shutterstock_48338863Selling your home takes a lot of work, and one of the toughest things you need to do is generate interest in your home. There are a lot of little things you can do to make your home more appealing. If you are trying to sell your home, check out these four tips to make the job easier.

Make It Look Like You Have More Storage Space

You can’t easily add more storage space to your closets or drawers, but you can make it look like you have more storage space. If you opened a closet and saw that it was jam-packed, it would seem like it didn’t have much room. However, you can trick the eye by removing many of those items. For example, remove half of your clothes from your closet. People will see it and think there is more space because there is so much room left, even with your clothes in it. Do this to every closet and drawer to make it look like there is more space.

Ensure Your Home Is Bright

Having a bright home is another important feature when selling your home. Go through every room and check every light, making sure it has a working bulb, or bulbs, in it to keep the area bright. If you have a dark area with no light, consider buying some floor or desk lamps. Keep curtains open to let in the natural light. A bright home is more welcoming, shows off the good parts of your home and doesn’t make it look like you’re trying to hide something.

Fix Problems but Don’t Go Overboard

Many people think it’s a good idea to drastically upgrade part of the home before you sell it. While a brand new kitchen or bathroom will increase the value of your home, it’s not a great idea to do it just to sell your home. You won’t get back all your investment, and you’ll be moving, so you won’t even get to enjoy the new kitchen or bathroom. However, you should make sure to fix problems. If you have a leaking sink or damaged countertop, fix it. These repairs won’t cost you a fortune but will make your home look better.

Depersonalize Your Home

The last step in snagging buyers is to make them forget you live there. Remove any photos of you and your family or any items that show your personal taste. When selling a home, it’s best to keep it impersonal. Choose items that most everyone would like. This makes it easier for people to picture themselves living in the home instead of you.

Selling your home isn’t as easy as posting an ad. You have to do a lot to make people want to live in your home and be able to see themselves living there.
